Weekend flings

March 14, 2011

Monday already?

Do your watch also loose time over weekends?

It is the most peculiar thing, the one moment it is Friday afternoon, and the weekend is courting you with its sweet whispers and promises of all the nice things that the two of you will get up to.  You blink, look at your watch and it is 9 pm Sunday … leaving you with a distinct feeling of betrayal. Where did the weekend go?

And you realise, the weekend definitely was not as into you as you were into it,...

A bit of an update

March 10, 2011

I cannot believe that it has been almost a month since my last entry.

Phew the last three weeks were a bit of a blur, the days all seemed to flow into each other making it difficult to tell whether it is Monday or Friday.  Now that “normality” and some sort of a routine is about to kick in again I find myself in the middle of all sorts of strat planning and future-decision-making… These are interesting times indeed.

Just wanted to share a few projects and ideas with you:

Scarf and brooch...

Just a few things

February 17, 2011

Okay just thought of doing a wee photo blog today nothing hectic.

So here goes:

A awesome handmade Christmas gift I got from V&B must still post the pic of the journal I got with the cookies (boasting a beautiful pewter cover).  I gave them each a pewter class as a gift, so I guess it is the gift that keeps on giving.  Loved the personal thoughts and attention that went into it!

And this is what I did with it:

Sent the cookies to school with M for her B-day.

Every year we do a "veldfliek" (movies...

Child's Play

February 11, 2011

In an effort to keep my kids occupied last weekend (rain, rain and little more rain) I pulled out my Pewter set and showed them how to do this cool craft.

The pewter set I have myself not even used as I have been too busy and really wanted to safe this craft for a special occasion – that pewter set – what we will not do for our kids!

I tried starting a project myself but soon gave up as I realized that I cannot craft and be teacher at the same time.  Pity as I have b...

Today is a FANTASTIC day!

February 10, 2011

Oh how do I count my blessings today.

I am just so so so happy (yes it called for 3 so’s).  You know that hop skip and a jump happy feeling.  If this was a Bollywood movie everybody around me would burst into spontaneous song and dance, and I would be the ultra sexy one in the middle with tall dark and mysterious next to me.

Why?

  1.  It is my one-and-only’s B-day today – B-days are big in our house!
  2. I got the best (restrained my self not go best best best here) n...

Monday: Show & Tell

February 7, 2011

There is so much to show and tell this Monday, it seems that the busier I am at work during the week the more I can do over a weekend! That age-old saying must be true, if you want something done – give it to a busy person.

My week last week was mostly consumed by a 16 page newspaper, editorial, sub, editorial, sub and finding the right photos etc etc etc.  So in the evenings and over the weekend I did not want to get even a glimpse of a computer or any other small screen. ...

French Knitting

February 1, 2011
I have been doing a lot of this lately.  For some unknown reason it realy makes me happy...

Not sure what I will end-up using it for, but while it keeps me calm and smiling I will carry on with this meaningless little project.

Lemme know if you have cool ideas on what I can use these metres and metres of French knitting, I am contemplating a rug ...

Head in the clouds

January 25, 2011
I just love cloads ...

Not sure if it is the whimsical puffiness, the dream quality or the fact the in an instant a cloud can be whatever it wants to be, but I love clouds.  I find myself constantly taking pictures of these giant floating dreamy skyballs.

Back to Basics function

January 24, 2011
A belated blog on a year-end function I did in December.

The theme was "back to basics", enjoying the simpler things in life and the budget was recession inspired. The function was presented at a private game farm and included an awesome game drive.   The colours; turquoise, orange and brown.

The invitations:

Inside:  plain white paper with black copy. Outside: brown paper with a brown satin ribbon zig-zag-sewed to the paper,  The little crochet circles were inspired by the cool retro ribbon.

Christmas Karnaval

January 21, 2011
My kids celebrate their birthdays In October, December and January.  Hectic I know! So that means that I have to plan kiddy birthdays for four consecutive months, throw in Christmas and New Year and you have once insane mother.

This year I got the brainwave of all brainwaves, why not present one big party, each kid may invite 10 friends, we find a date in the middle and we have a kiddies carnival! (And maybe a more sane mother).

The kids bought it!  So on 10 December last year we had our very f...

Rain Rain Rain

January 19, 2011

We've been experiencing some unusually high rainfall here in Gauteng over the last couple of weeks.  And just as I thought that my irritation with damp, leaking roofs and washing that cannot dry reached an all time high, I am rewarded with this beautiful image in my garden (maybe a better word would be swamp)!

About Me

ietsies Just love being creative, be it writing, tinkering in the studio, cooking or playing fairy-godmother to old run-down stuff. I firmly believe that upcycling is the way of the future, there are already too many "things" on earth so rather repurpose something old and give it a beautiful creative new lease of life. It it's broken ... upcycle it! Stick it to the mass manufacturers and support handmade product.
